CLOSURE OF THE ARGYLE MINE
After almost four decades of mining production, the world renowned Argyle diamond mine is closing its doors.
Even though this inevitable event was foreseen, it comes as a really sad news for the whole gemstone industry, marking - undoubtedly - the end of an era. Be prepared: prices are going to raise!
The Argyle Diamond Mine is located in western Australia, in the East Kimberley region. Owned by the famous company Rio Tinto, who also owns the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada and the Murowa Diamond Mine in Zimbabwe, the Argyle Diamond Mine is said to be the fourth largest diamond producer by volume, but/ and also the one and only consistent source of pink diamonds! This being said, less than one percent of diamonds coming out of the ground through the Argyle mine are pink!
