THE ARGYLE VIOLET
An impossibly rare piece of Nature!
To close up 2020 and to commemorate once again one of the World’s most important source of coloured diamonds, let’s immerse ourselves in the depth of this captivating Fancy Deep Greyish Bluish Violet Diamond (GIA) of 2.83 carats: the Argyle Violet - the largest violet diamond ever found at the Argyle Mine!
The rough of 9.17 carats has been excavated from the heart of the australian mine in 2015. The delicate cutting and polishing process was attributed to one of Argyle’s famous cutting masters, Richard How Kim Kam, who had already handled his share of important diamonds, such as the Argyle Pink Jubilee of 8.01 carats. Eventhough, the exceptional challenge of polishing this specific violet diamond has to be pointed out as the rough displayed only one single band of saturated violet colour shining through the heart of the stone - it is this single band of colour that transmits this unique hue to the impossibly rare Argyle Violet.
The violet diamond got presented at one of the famous Argyle Tenders, in 2016, as part of the Chroma Collection. The diamond was sold to L.J West Diamonds Inc. for an undisclosed amount. However, the estimation of such a unique piece of nature is said to be around $2 million per carat. As a quote from Scott West says: “The Argyle Violet is like the Mona Lisa of Argyle”.
A beautiful, artistic and historic way of closing up 2020!
